SLEEP LIKE A CELEBRITY
Glamour magazine looks at the sleeping habits of celebrities. No, not who the celebs are sleeping with -- but how they sleep.
- Mariah Carey claims she spends 15 hours a day sleeping. What??? Mariah also believes it's important to have 20 humidifiers running in her bedroom It keeps her precious throat from drying out.
- On the other end of the spectrum, Martha Stewart spends less than 5 hours in bed, before she rushes off to her next project.
- Rosie O'Donnell reportedly snores.
- Kelly Clarkson keeps a diary near her bed. She believes she's really creative while sleeping. As soon as she wakes, Kelly wants to capture images and lyrics that she's dreamed.
4 QUESTIONS ONLY A GUY COULD ANSWER
Still trying to guess what he's thinking? Don't bother. Glamour asked author Nick Hornby (About A Boy, High Fidelity, Fever Pitch) what he's figured out after a lifetime of writing about the ins and outs of love. If he can't answer these questions, who can?
1. How do you deal with a guy who is REALLY into his hobby? He's not joking. You need to accept this guy's passion. It doesn't have to be your favorite, but it comes with the territory. Don't fake an interest; you can't keep it up forever.
2. Are his exes a threat? Maybe. Is there one in the picture? A lot of men aren't in touch with their exes simply because they're ... well ... exes! But Hornby admits that things can be different for girls -- that's why six of his wife's exes were at their wedding!
3. We're always being told "new" ways to attract men -- what works? BE YOURSELF. "Make an effort, but be yourself," says Hornby.
4. So ... we should drop all the mystery? When you meet the right person, they're not a mystery. "They turn up when they say they will. There's no game playing," he says.
The Four Worst Places To Break Up (Posted 3:00 AM, 10/2/2009) |
 |
| You hate to have to do it. But it's time. So as you plan what you're going to say, when you're going to do it, and how to do it most gracefully, don't ignore an important part of the break-up equation: where you're gonna do it. According to eHarmony.com, here are the four worst places to break up, and why: #1: Your place -- THE worst place to break up with someone. - First, it's completely private, which means that any outburst on the part of your partner will be pretty much without consequence. Your partner can yell, attack you, or even throw things.
- Second, the conversation won't be over until the other person decides to leave. That means the talk can go on for hours.
- Third, it leaves the door wide open for some sort of physical "reunion" between you two. Many breakups end up with the couple in bed, instead of saying good-bye. This only complicates things and makes the inevitable breakup harder the next time you muster the courage to try again.
#2: Their place. - Not quite as bad as breaking up at your place, but many of the same dangers exist.
- The one and only advantage: you can leave when you decide it's time.
#3: A restaurant. - Do you really think you're going to order wine and appetizers and pretend to be having a great time, and then pull something like, "I'll have the salmon, and honey, I just don't think this is working out"?
- Delivering the bad news in a crowded restaurant may decrease the chance of an outburst, but it will also be humiliating for them, as their tears and sadness will be obvious to the other people in the restaurant.
- And if there is an outburst, you'll be embarrassed by the entire restaurant staring at you, and possibly learning things you'd rather they didn't know.
#4: Their workplace. - Not only are you going to break their heart, you're also going to ruin their performance at work, and maybe even create a situation where they'll need to leave for the day.
- And again, it will be completely humiliating to have all your partner's friends and co-workers witness you dumping them.
- Also again, if an ugly argument ensues, your dirty laundry will be aired for all to see -- and e-mail and talk about later.
So where should you do it? There is no perfect place, but a general rule is to try to find a public place without an audience, like a park or beach. This kind of location will prevent you from being cornered, will greatly reduce the chance of a scene, and also offers an all-important escape route. Neither of you will feel compelled to stay any longer than necessary, since you can leave whenever you want.
