WHO PICKS UP THE TAB?
Dating is expensive, especially for guys, who we are told, are always supposed to pick up the check.
But, are guys REALLY on the hook for the check? Every check?
Here's a different way of looking at the whole thing that might save some guys some money:
1. First Meeting -- Guys don't necessarily have to pay here. Instead, whoever asks for the meeting in the first place, pays. It could be coffee or lunch ... whoever initiates this meeting is on the hook.
2. First Official Date -- The guy pays. There's no way out of it. Guys have to prove they're not cheapskates by forking over the cash.
3. Third to Fifth Date -- By now, the woman should have offered to pay for something. If not, the guy should consider cutting and running -- before he goes broke.
4. Established Relationship -- Men and women should take turns paying.
According to new national survey, Halloween spending is expected to be down in a big way this year.
The National Retail Federation's annual survey found that Americans expect to spend $4.75 billion this year -- down sharply from an expected $5.77 billion spent last Halloween.
Here are some more numbers from the survey:
- $56.31 -- How much shoppers are expected to spend on average this Halloween, down from $66.54 last year.
- $68.56 -- How much last year's big spenders -- young adults ages 18 to 24 -- plan on shelling out this year on average, down more than 20 percent from $86.59 in 2008.
- $17.99 -- How much consumers plan to spend on candy, down $2.40 from a year ago.
- $20.75 -- How much consumers plan to spend on costumes, down nearly $3.50 from a year ago.
